Investigating the Gender Wealth Gap Across Occupational Classes

This study examines the role of occupational classes in Gender Wealth Gap (GWG). Despite rising interest gender differences wealth, central occupations restricting and enabling its accumulation has been neglected thus far. Drawing on German Socio-Economic Panel, this employs quantile regressions decomposition techniques. It finds explanatory power for wealth gap, which exists despite accounting other labor-market-relevant parameters, such as income, tenure, full-time work experience at different points distribution. gaps by vary between within classes. Particularly, women’s underrepresentation among self-employed overrepresentation sociocultural professions explain GWG Germany. The adds another dimension stratification – class to discussion gendered distribution wealth.HIGHLIGHTS Women’s lower income drive overall gap.Occupational more gap than family or workplace characteristics.Gender are largest managerial classes.The even female-dominated professions.
